Former Moc returns to defensive end for the Saints
Three-time All-American and two-time SoCon Defensive Player of the Year, Davis Tull, is back at the position he knows and loves.
Three-time All-American and two-time SoCon Defensive Player of the Year, Davis Tull rewrote the history books on defense at UTC. He did it all with his hand in the ground, a natural defensive end. Yet, the New Orleans Saints drafted him in the 5th round as a linebacker. His size and Rob Ryan's defense dictated that and Davis, the lifelong defense end, went along with it.
Back in November, the Saints fired defensive coordinator Rob Ryan. In came Dennis Allen and back went Tull's hand into the ground. Tull is back at defensive end where he's comfortable, and head coach Sean Payton has taken notice.
"He's obviously quick, healthy, doing good" says Payton."I thought today he had some good rushes. I specifically saw two and that's good, good for us."
Tull under went shoulder surgery at the beginning of last year, and missed the entire 2015 season. But now he's back on the gridiron and feeling better than ever for his "second rookie year."
"I feel pretty good, got to keep going though and keep improving" says Tull. "I'm still on a maintenance program trying to stay healthy, but I feel good out there right now and I'm excited to keep going and put pads on and be more physical with it."
