UT, UTC employees can begin registering Monday to carry handguns on campus
The new law, however, does not extend to students.
Registration will begin Monday morning for University of Tennessee employees who intend to carry a concealed handgun on campus, UT Police Chief Troy Lane notified faculty and staff in an email Thursday.
Campus officials have published a new policy in anticipation of a new state law that takes effect July 1 to allow full-time state college campus employees with handgun permits to go armed on campus.
University of Tennessee employees will be required to register with the UT Police Department, provide their faculty/identification card, valid Tennessee driver's license and valid state handgun permit.
UTPD will maintain the list of registered permit holders, which can only be shared with other law enforcement agencies, according to Lane's message.

The Tennessean reports that the policy DiPietro announced Wednesday will apply to UT campuses in Knoxville, Chattanooga, Martin and Memphis.
Leaders and law enforcement at each campus will discuss their individual approaches to parts of the policy in coming days, DiPietro said.
