A house fire on Cove Ridge Road left a family of seven staying elsewhere Friday night.
The Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department received the call around 10:15 p.m. When firefighters arrived they say 45 percent of the house was engulfed by flames.
The homeowner told firefighters that she and her grandson smelled smoke coming from the attic area but could not find the source.
Five family members were not home.
Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the flames, but a fire official says 60 percent of the house is a total loss and damages are estimated at $100,000.
A neighbor's home was also damaged by the fire. She tells Channel 3, she was able to comfort the child during the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The American Red Cross helped the family.
