Mixed martial artist Kevin Ferguson, better known to the world as Kimbo Slice, has died at the age of 42.
Slice was hospitalized on Monday for undisclosed reasons close to his home in South Florida and news of his passing spread hours after the initial report.
“Kimbo was a charismatic, larger-than-life personality that transcended the sport,” Bellator president Scott Coker said in a statement.
The world discovered Kimbo on the Internet thanks to his series of backyard fights that went viral in the mid 2000s. Slice was a member of the Bellator roster and was scheduled to headline Bellator 158 on July 16th against James Thompson.
