Police said several agencies responded to the emergency call just before 3 p.m. at Fort Loudoun State Historic Park in Vonore.

The Englewood resident, whose identity has not been released, "wasn't a strong swimmer," said Kelly Brockman, communications director for the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, which oversees state parks. "He just got too far out … went under and never came up."

Brockman said there was no indication alcohol or drugs were involved.

Emergency personnel found the man's body around 5:45 p.m. Sunday, she said.

Blount Special Operations Response Team, a collaboration of personnel from Blount County Sheriff's Office and several emergency services agencies in Blount County, assisted with recovery, as did Maryville Police Department, Monroe County Rescue Squad, Vonore Police Department, Monroe County Emergency Medical Services and Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency.
