UPDATE: Man shot in the leg in Tracy City; suspects at large
Two suspects entered the victim's home and demanded drugs before shooting him.
UPDATE: Two men are on the loose in Tracy City after police said they entered a man's home, robbed him, and then shot him in the leg. Investigators said the home invasion started all because of drugs.
"This is basically a quiet little area, so it's shocking," Jonny Conry, a neighbor said.
Police said the men went into 34-year-old James Hill's home on Sims Street and demanded drugs from him on Monday around 3:00 p.m. CST. Hill told them he didn't have any drugs and that's when the situation became violent.
"I think Mr. Hill was a target of this thing, I do. I think it's a very isolated incident," Tracy City Police Chief Charlie Wilder said.
Wilder said the suspects ordered Hill to get on the ground and as he was doing that, one of them shot him in his right leg. He was then tied up with a black leather belt and threatened with more violence.
The two men ran off with Hill's prescription pain pills and cell phone.
"We were around the pool and we just heard sirens and we heard them stop and we knew it was somewhere close," Conry said.
Hill was airlifted to Erlanger Medical Center for his gunshot wound. He's at home recovering.
"This was broad daylight, Memorial Day weekend, folks were out in their yard enjoying themselves. The canvass of the neighborhood, I think, is going to yield some results, if nothing else," Wilder said.
Police are hoping neighbors will speak up about the situation. They're also trying to figure out why Hill was targeted.
"I think our town is basically a great town, but when things like that happen, you are scared," Conry said.
Police said the suspects are white, in their late 20s or early 30s, around 5'11 or shorter and they weigh about 160 lbs. Investigators said at least one of the men has a goatee and very short dark hair.
