A camper had to be rescued Saturday afternoon in the Pocket Wilderness.
Amy Maxwell with Hamilton County Emergency Services tells Channel 3 a group was camping on the trails Friday night. They went to gather firewood and one of the campers fell and injured his leg when a branch impaled his thigh. The group waited until morning to hike out but the male camper was unable to walk out. Some of the group went ahead to find cell signal and call 9-1-1, while some stayed with the injured camper. Rescue personnel began rescue operations at 11:00 am, 6 hours later they managed to get the camper out. He was taken to the hospital to treat his injury. His name has not been released.
