Tri-Community Volunteer firefighters and multiple agencies were called to a large house fire in Apison this evening.

It was reported shortly before 6:00 p.m. on Wesleyan Road.

Fire officials say the fire started on the first floor in the back left corner of the home. Firefighters quickly connected a water line to get the fire under control. Other Tri-Community firefighters entered the house to knock the fire down on the first floor.

"Unfortunately, the fire quickly spread throughout the attic area and caused the structure to become unstable," Hamilton County EMS spokeswoman Amy Maxwell. "So, the chief on the scene ordered all firefighters to evacuate the burning home and conduct an exterior attack."

Officials say no residents have been injured; however, a firefighter was treated on the scene for a minor burn. Maxwell says a firefighter was taken to a local hospital for heat exhaustion.

More than half a dozen fire crews responded to the scene from various agencies, including firefighters from the Highway 58 VFD, Bradley County Fire Rescue, Hamilton County Rescue, East Ridge Fire Department, and Catoosa County Fire Department.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
