Garrett wins Kayak Bass Tournament on Chickamauga Lake

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - The Chattanooga Bass Yakkers held their 4th tournament of the 2016 tournament trail out of Possum Creek on Chickamauga Lake Saturday, May 21st. Eighteen anglers launched out at first light determined to bring back the 3 largest fish of the tournament.

In kayak tournaments, the format is catch-photo-release. Anglers place the fish on a measuring board with an identifying card, take a picture of the fish showing the total length, and then release the fish immediately.

At the end of the day, it was Garrett Campbell taking home the win with a total of 53.25” in 3 fish. Anchoring his 3-fish limit was his personal best smallmouth, good for the tournament’s Big Fish honors.

Garrett credits a Testimony Tackle football jig for bringing in his largest fish. He was concentrating on water 12-15 feet adjacent to the river channel and was successful with both the jig and Senko.

In second place was Rex Parton with a 3-fish limit of 47.25”. Rounding out the Top 3 was Justin Rongey with 44.00”.

The Top 7 anglers from each of the 8 kayak fishing clubs in Tennessee will be invited to compete in the 2016 TN State Championship tournament. There are still 4 tournaments remaining this season. The next tournament will take place Saturday, June 4th out of Marion Co. Park on Nickajack Lake.
