McKamey Animal Services and Chattanooga fire fighters worked together to free a cat from a car outside a Tiftonia gas station Friday morning.

McKamey shared pictures from the event on the center’s Facebook page, saying the driver of the car had stopped for coffee at the MAPCO when he heard the kitten under his car hood.

The driver couldn’t reach the kitten and called McKamey Animal Services.

A McKamey officer called fire crews for assistance in reaching the kitten, which was safely extricated about an hour later. The kitten, a seven week-old female tortoise shell kitten, is now at McKamey for an exam and appears to be fine.

“The owner of the car believes the kitten was unknowingly under the hood of the car when he left Alabama,” McKamey explained on its Facebook page.

The kitten, appropriately named Traveler following the adventure, will remain at McKamey until a possible owner can be located. If an owner is not located, she’ll be available for adoption.
