UPDATE: ATV wheel falls off truck sparking I-24 brush fire

Posted: Updated:
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

Traffic on I-24 is moving slowly in both directions after a brush fire this afternoon.

Chattanooga Fire spokesman Bruce Garner says the fire started in Dade County when a flat, ATV wheel bounced off the back of a truck. He says the rim created sparks as it hit the pavement.

The fire spread from the Georgia line to mile marker 172 near Cummings Road, with heavy smoke creating low visibility for drivers.

A tweet at 3:30 p.m. from the Chattanooga Fire Department showed crews made quick work of putting out the flames.

Currently west and eastbound lanes are slowly moving.

The Georgia Forestry Division and Dade County Fire Department were called in to assist Chattanooga-Hamilton County Fire Department.

No crashes or injuries were reported in connection with it.

TDOT expects traffic to be flowing smoothly by 6:00 p.m.
