PREVIOUS STORY:  A Chattanooga man is behind bars in connection to a shooting that killed a man but police are still searching for the person who pulled the trigger.

It happened around 5:30 Tuesday night on Jeffery Lane. Police say Orlandas Gay, 26, was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Monika Hill fought back tears as she described the last moments she saw her friend who she says also went by "Rock."

"He paid me five dollars and brought a big bag of clothes over here that he wanted to wash," Hill said.

She described Gay as someone who liked to help those around him, especially the children in the neighborhood.

"He bought all these kids out here, it was hot, he went and bought all these kids frozens yesterday," she said.

She's still trying to wrap her head around the fact that her friend's life would end just moments later when police say a fight started between Gay and brothers Travoraus and Judius Thompson.

"At some point, in that altercation, a gun was brandished and Orlandas was shot and subsequently died," Chattanooga Police Lt. Nathan Vaughn said.

Judius was arrested but police are still searching for Travoraus.

It all unfolded in front of the home where Hill raises her kids.

"It hurts my heart. I can't even, when I come out here, this man, just lost his soul right here on the sidewalk," she added.

Gay's death is the 14th homicide in Chattanooga this year, a number that has this young mom reconsidering where she calls home.

"Kids are out here witnessing this stuff. My daughter is six years old and never seen a dead body until I moved here," she said.
