Former Brave Ryan Klesko a big hit at "Homers for Heroes"

Posted: Updated:

Former Atlanta Brave, Ryan Klesko, came out to AT&T field Saturday to dust off the cleats and help raise money for the first ever "Homers for Heroes."

Hundreds came to watch their friends, family, and work buddies swing for the fences, as well as get a chance to meet the former Atlanta first baseman. Sixteen local companies formed teams of just two batters each to compete in the home run derby.

Klesko took some batting practice on the field and pitched to fans from the mound. He donated $100 to anyone who was able to hit a home run off him.

The derby helped raise money for local Bellhop employee, Nathan Sexton, a husband, and father battling stage four brain cancer.

"It's a great way to pull the community together" says Kelsko. "It's great for him to see the community come out here and support him. It's a tough fight and so to see this type of community come together is encouraging, it's awesome, and we're pulling for him."
