UPDATE: Cleveland City BOE to announce new Director of Schools Thursday

UPDATE: The Cleveland City School's Board of Education will announce their new Director of Schools on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Administrative Office Building. 

The Board of Education cut down the list of candidates to two last week. Dr. Elizabeth Alves, Assistant Superintendent/Chief Academic Officer, Knox County Schools and Dr. Russell Dyer, Chief of Staff, Collierville Schools are the finalist.

Cathy Goodman is currently serving as interim director, after former Director of Schools Martin Ringstaff was fired in early February.


PREVIOUS STORY: The Cleveland City Schools Board of Education has narrowed a list of five finalists for the Director of Schools position down to two.

Board members announced Thursday that the two remaining finalists are:

  • Dr. Elizabeth Alves, Assistant Superintendent/Chief Academic Officer, Knox County Schools
  • Dr. Russell Dyer, Chief of Staff, Collierville Schools

PREVIOUS STORY: The Cleveland City Schools Board of Education has set the five finalists for the Director of Schools position. 

The community is invited to attend the interviews each evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Mayfield Elementary School, located at 501 20th Street NE in Cleveland.

Here is the candidate interview schedule:

  • Wednesday, May 4 - Dr. John Ash, Principal of Central Magnet School in Murfreesboro
  • Thursday, May 5 - Dr. Sharon Harper, Tennessee Department of Education, Executive Director of Southeast CORE
  • Monday, May 9 - Dr. Russell Dyer, Chief of Staff, Collierville Schools
  • Tuesday, May 10 - Dr. Elizabeth Alves, Assistant Superintendent/Chief Academic Officer, Knox County Schools
  • Wednesday, May 11 - Dr. Daniel Brigman, Superintendent of Schools, Catawba County Schools, Newton, NC
