CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

After a 12-shooting spree in Chattanooga in April, Police Chief Fred Fletcher warned gang members “You can expect to see more police officers confronting more gang members in more ways than ever before,” said Chief Fletcher. “Gang members will receive very special and very intense attention from every component of the Department and our partnership.”

A 17-year-old was killed and two pregnant women were shot in the violence-filled week.

Fletcher authorized the aggressive use of additional overtime and placed all available officers on the street in areas most at risk for violence.

The additional police presence resulted in 174 arrests from Wednesday, April 20 until Tuesday, April 26. According to CPD spokesman Kyle Miller, 44 of those arrested were known gang members.

Increased patrols and targeted enforcement were used to take known violent offenders and fugitives off the streets.

Chief Fletcher and his officers called together all available Federal, State, and County partners for the two-day operation. The targeted enforcement action resulted in 157 arrests or indictments, 30 of which were known gang members and 232 warrants were served.  Seven firearms were seized during this same time.
