Chili fundraiser held for Crystal York; mother killed in Thursday's stabbings

A fundraising event was held Sunday in Cleveland to help the families of the victims' in this week's triple stabbing. The Little Diner on First hosted the benefit dinner for the family of Crystal York. Crystal's mother says she is touched by the amount of people who showed up to celebrate her daughter's life.
Crystal York's former coworkers spent the afternoon dishing out chili. A fundraiser hosted by the Little Diner on First for the young mother killed Thursday in Cleveland. “My daughter was loved so very much, by so many people. It is like she is a legacy,” said Crystal’s mother, Elizabeth Jones.
The community joined together to celebrate York’s life, remembering her for her contagious smile.
“Upbeat, always very positive. Always looking for the best part of life and the best part of people,” said Dan Jones.
Although York served food at the Little Diner on First for only a few short months she held a very special place in the owner's heart. “I've known her for 13 years. We lived together, we had matching Fridays together, we worked 5 days a week together,” said Christy Coy.
Crystal's closest friends are happy with the amount of support pouring in. Money raised Sunday will go to funeral cost and to help crystal's children. “The turnout was amazing. The support from customers, family, friends, local churches, it’s been a great turnout,” said former coworker Maggie Laney.
As the community tries to understand York’s tragic death they vow to keep her memory alive.
“She will be missed, by hundreds, thousands of people,” said Coy.
“Wonderful mom, wonderful daughter, amazing friend to everyone,” said York’s mom.
Stephen Jacob Reed, who is charged in York’s death, is being held in the Bradley County Jail on a $500,000 bond. He's expected to appear in court again this week. Funeral services for Crystal York will be held Monday.
