The Chattanooga Mocs softball team won the series 2-1 against Mercer after a 9-0 victory in five innings at Frost Stadium on Sunday. UTC is 26-22 and 6-6 in Southern Conference action.

"I was proud of the team today," head coach Frank Reed stated. "We needed that win today. All-in-all, it was a good weekend for us."

Chattanooga got an early 5-0 lead in the first inning.

"We came out ready to play today," said Reed. "We're capable of it even when facing some injuries. We strung some hits together."

Senior Alyssa Taylor hit a single to right field on the Mocs first at bat. Following that, freshman Alyssa Coppinger and senior Criket Blanco were walked to load the bases.

Freshman Jordan Fortel and senior Anyssa Robles hit back-to-back doubles, batting in two each. Chattanooga's fifth run was scored by freshman Amanda Beltran off a single from senior Amanda Ross.

The Mocs added two more runs off Mercer errors in the bottom of the second to make the score 7-0.

In the third inning, sophomore Ashley Conner kept the Mocs strong offensive performance going with a double, batting in Taylor and Coppinger.

Sophomore Cori Jennings only allowed three hits, earning her 12th win from the circle.

UTC travels to Birmingham, Ala., to face UAB Tuesday, April 26 at 5:00 p.m.
