Cleveland community reacts to deadly triple stabbings

Posted: Updated:

Residents of Springbrook Apartments are still trying to make sense of the triple stabbing that happened there on Thursday.

Crystal York, 35, and Crystal Canino, 33, were killed. Anthony Beck is recovering from stab wounds. Stephen Jacob Reed, 24, is charged with second degree murder and attempted second degree murder.

The deaths have shocked the community, but especially some local restaurants in Cleveland.

Flowers hang on the door of the Little Diner on First, where York worked with some of her closest friends. They said she meant a lot to customers and coworkers.

Before York worked at the diner, she was a long-time waitress at Cameron's restaurant.

Nikki Elkins remembers the mother of two was popular with customers.

"Anybody that would come here to eat would tell you, when they came in to see Crystal, it would make your day better," Elkins said. "She was always smiling, laughing. She lived for her kids."

Police found Reed in the roadway of the apartment complex, covered in blood. According to the arrest affidavit, Reed told investigators he didn't remember what happened.

Reed is being held in the Bradley County Jail on $500,000 bond. He is expected to appear in court again next week.

A chili supper benefit will be held at the Little Diner on First on Sunday, April 24 from 2-6 p.m.  Proceeds will help cover York's funeral costs.
