TBI Report: Chattanooga PD clears fewer cases than other TN metro areas

Monday, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation released its 2015 ‘Crime in Tennessee’ report which showed an overall decrease in reported crimes for the year.

Additionally, the TBI tracks the number of offenses and the number of those cleared. Here’s a look at how the Chattanooga Police Department compares to the rest of the state and Hamilton County:

  • MEMPHIS PD
    • OFFENSE TOTAL – 97, 467
    • NUMBER CLEARED – 24,007
    • PERCENT CLEARED – 24.63%
  • NASHVILLE METRO PD
    • OFFENSE TOTAL – 83, 142
    • NUMBER CLEARED – 33, 874
    • PERCENT CLEARED – 40.74%
  • KNOXVILLE PD
    • OFFENSE TOTAL – 22, 720
    • NUMBER CLEARED – 11, 245
    • PERCENT CLEARED – 49.49%
  • CHATTANOOGA PD
    • OFFENSE TOTAL – 21, 465
    • NUMBER CLEARED – 2,610
    • PERCENT CLEARED – 12.16%
  • HAMILTON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
    • OFFENSE TOTAL – 4, 618
    • NUMBER CLEARED – 2, 231
    • PERCENT CLEARED – 48.31%

Other findings in the 2015 TBI Crime report:

  • The total number of reported Group A incidents decreased by 2.1% year-to-year.
  • Reported homicides increased by 9.4%.
  • The number of Forcible Rape cases reported by law enforcement agencies increased by 2.4%.
  • The number of Drug/Narcotic, Prostitution, and Burglary offenses all decreased in 2015’s study.
  • Reported methamphetamine offenses increased from 4,362 in 2014 to 6,276 in 2015.
  • Simple Assault accounted for 67.3% of all reported Domestic Violence offenses.
