CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

Four times this year someone has tried to bring a handgun through security at the Chattanooga airport.

That's not the only type of weapon TSA agents regularly find in passenger bags.

Agents have found everything from credit card knives to brass to knuckles to hand grenades in the past two months alone in East Tennessee.

TSA Supervisor Ronda Spurgin said agents at the Chattanooga airport have found four guns at the security checkpoint so far in 2016. In 2015, agents at CHA found 10 handguns in carry-on luggage at the security checkpoint. Spurgin said she hears all kinds of excuses.

"Oh I forgot it was in there, I don't understand how they can forget with one in chamber, throw it up on the x-ray, I don't understand that," Spurgin said. "Firearms always surprise me, a lot of times when we get firearms in the bag, they're not even in the case."

If agents come across a dangerous weapon, they'll shut down security and call police. In some cases, the passenger can be charged or fined. Most of the time the TSA said the passenger meant no harm but they want to travelers to know they'll catch even the smallest items that can be coupled as weapons.
