APISON, HAMILTON COUNTY (WRCB) -

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office is searching for a man suspected of burglarizing several properties in Apison, including the 2016 St. Jude Dream Home.

The theft is causing a setback in construction after more than $5,000 worth of decorative tile was stolen Monday morning.

The project manager, Gus Issa, said someone came onto the property and stole the donated items. All of the supplies on the property had been donated in order to raise money for the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

"Some of this stuff is extremely expensive. That's the stuff that got grabbed first," Issa said, "Stealing from a children's hospital is just disheartening, I don't even really know what to say about it."

Construction crews were on high alert after the first theft was reported Monday morning.

Later Monday night, the suspect was spotted again at the Dream Home build site.

A worker chased him away and came face to face with the armed suspect.

"The individual gets out of the vehicle, stab's the gentleman's Tahoe, two tires, he flattens them immediately, drives right back out of there and nobody's seen him since," Issa adds.

A surveillance photo was shared with Channel 3 that shows a suspect breaking into another home just down the street.

The Sheriff's Office believes the man in the photo is the same man who stole from the dream home. The Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the theft and the damaged tires.

"I just hope that someone does recognize him and we get him," Issa said.

The stolen tile was donated by Shaw Flooring. The company says they're going to donate more tile to make up for the thefts.

But crews are already working against a tight deadline to have the house finished next month.

"I was just on the phone scrambling, trying to get something brought in," Issa said, "It's going to be a beautiful home it's just going to be a little bit more of a struggle at this point."

The Sheriff's Office is asking if anyone recognizes the suspect to call 423-209-8940.

Channel 3's video shows a close-up look at the brand of the tiles missing from the St. Jude Dream Home. If you have seen this tile or if someone tries to sell you the tile, you are also asked to call the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.
