(NBC Sports) - Retired Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning has no shortage of offers to sift through, and he’s famous for being thorough and prepared for any decision he has to make — on or off the field.

So it’s no surprise he’s talking to some of the highest-profile people in many fields before he commits himself to a post-football direction.

According to Jason McIntyre of TheBigLead.com, Manning recently met with Hall of Fame coach/announcer John Madden, asking for advice about an entry to the television world.

The report says Madden urged him to follow the path of John Elway, to try to run a team or grab a stake in ownership.

Elway initially passed on a chance for a share of ownership in the Broncos, before circling back to become the team’s chief executive.

With rumors constantly swirling about the Titans or the Browns, Manning would seemingly have an opportunity to follow that path if he chose. The guy who chose him — former Colts president Bill Polian — said he thought Manning would make an excellent executive given some time to acclimate to the challenges.

And it seems that CBS has a standing offer for Manning, which would give him a chance to decompress from his playing days, while still keeping his finger on the pulse of the game.
