McLennan Named SoCon Golfer of the Month

Posted: Updated:

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (gomocs.com)---Chattanooga Mocs senior golfer Emily McLennan is the Southern Conference Golfer of the Month for March the league announced Thursday. It is her second career monthly award and third overall this season to go with her two weekly honors.

McLennan earned both Golfer of the Week awards in March. She tied for medalist honors at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic on March 1 and tied for second in the middle of the month in the Low Country Intercollegiate.

The win was her third, while the runner-up finish was the 11th top 5 of her career. She set new school records for par or better rounds as well as birdies in a season and career during the month. Her 1-under par 71 on the second 18 at the UNF Collegiate was her 11th par or better card which broke Emma de Groot (2009-10) and Jordan Britt’s (2013-14) record of 10 for a single year.

The season birdie mark (90) came while tying for 12th at the Henssler Financial to end March. The career tally (288) came in the final round of her win on Kiawah Island.

She leads the league in stroke average at 72.97. That’s nearly a half-shot better than Furman sophomore Alice Chen (73.38). Her current total stands as the school season record by 0.84 over Emma de Groot’s 73.81 in 2009-10.

The Mocs head to Savannah this weekend in search of their sixth SoCon Championship in seven years. The program has finished in the top two in seven straight including five consecutive wins from 2010-14. The tourney begins Sunday, April 10, with 18 holes per day through Tuesday.
