CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

Another key piece of the South Chickamauga Creek greenway is finished.

The greenway now connects from North Hawthorne Street to the popular Tennessee Riverpark and its network of trails.

The new connection includes a 190-foot bridge, more than 150 new trees, bathouses put in place by area Boy Scouts and art work from area Girl Scouts.

The Trust for Public Land is holding a Community Day to celebrate the extension on Saturday, April 9 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Events include the South Chick Sunriser 5K, a standup paddleboard social paddle, bike parade, live bluegrass music, outdoor yoga classes hosted by Yoga Landing, free bike and canoe rentals from Outdoor Chattanooga, food trucks, an outdoor open-air market, children’s activities and art displays.

More information about the South Chickamauga Greenway Project can be found on the Trust for Public Land and Outdoor Chattanooga websites.
