VIDEO: I-75 police chase in GA ends with arrest for drugs, guns

CATOOSA COUNTY, GA (WRCB) -

A police chase on Interstate 75 Wednesday ended in the arrest of the driver.

The chase began as what Whitfield County Sheriff Deputy Kenneth Henderson thought to be an impaired driver on I-75 northbound near the Rocky face exit.

The driver refused to stop when the deputy hit his blue lights, which began a pursuit that exceeded 90 mph.

After the chase entered Catoosa County, a GSP Trooper joined the pursuit. 

The trooper performed a PIT maneuver on the vehicle in Catoosa County and the driver of the truck lost control and crashed into a guardrail. The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody.

William Thomas Burton Jr., 39, of Rogersville, TN was arrested and charged with:

  • Trafficking in methamphetamine
  • Possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine
  • Two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • Two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime
  • Two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon during the commission of a crime

Burton is also facing numerous traffic violations including seat belt violation, driving on a suspended license, and fleeing to elude. 

He is currently being held in the Whitfield County Jail without bond.
