UPDATE: Fire leaves $30,000 of damage to East Ridge home

UPDATE: A morning house fire was reported Thursday at a home on Heather Street in East Ridge.

Both the city's fire and police departments responded and found heavy smoke coming from the home. 

The occupants were able to escape the home safely after reporting smoke inside. 

Firefighters were able to find and extinguish the fire, which appeared to have started in the home's crawl space under the house. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time and not believed to be suspicious. 

No injuries were reported and officials estimate the dollar loss to be around $30,000.

PREVIOUS STORY: The East Ridge Fire Department responded to reports of a fire at 1606 Heather St. early Thursday morning.

Officials say the incident is a house fire, possibly due to a wiring issue.

Fire crews are working to clear the scene.

There is no word yet on any injuries, or total damages to the property.
