Homework helpers for parents

Final exams are just right around the corner for most school kids. Time for students to get ready, and they're not the only ones. If you're the parent of a student, you'll probably be doing some homework too. That can be a problem for most parents who haven't studied algebra or chemistry in years. Two apps can help parents with exam preparations.

"Photo Math" is a camera calculator. Just point your smartphone camera at a math question, and photomath instantly displays the answer. The app can tackle basic arithmetic, fractions, decimals, linear equations and equation systems, even logarithms. Photo Math isn't created for cheaters it's for learners and teachers. In addition to showing the answer, the app shows its work with a detailed stepbystep explanation. At the moment Photo Math doesn't read handwriting, only math problems printed in a textbook.

Parents who are not smarter than a 5th grader could use WolframAlpha this school year. It has an answer for everything.

Wolfram Alpha uses many of the world's most advanced computers to answer practically anything a textbook can throw at students. Math, chemistry, physics, astronomy, earth sciences, geography, history, even current cultural events. If the data is entered into a computer anywhere, it's can be found somewhere in this app.

You can type the question or ask it. All of that information is literally at your fingertips.

The full version is 3 dollars, and it works on both iOS and Android devices. There is also a WolframAlpha website with all of the same features and information.
