Knox County school bus driver suspended after hitting mailbox

A Knox County school bus driver has been suspended after he allegedly drove through a North Knoxville woman's yard, destroying her mailbox, in a hit-and-run incident captured on camera Wednesday morning, officials confirmed.

Scott Hurst has been removed from the school system's roster of eligible drivers pending the completion of the investigation, Knox County Schools spokeswoman Melissa Tindell said Thursday.

School system administrators were notified of the crash Wednesday by the homeowner, Terry Scarlett, after Bus 299, driven by Hurst, drove through Scarlett's front yard along Boright Drive, Tindell said.

The incident was captured by a security camera outside Scarlett's home.
