Dunlap business celebrates life-saving heroes

Posted: Updated:

A miraculous turn of events has proven that bystander CPR and early defibrillation from an AED can in fact save a person's life.  It if was not for Unipower's standard safety protocol to educate employees on the proper way to perform CPR and have AEDs accessible on site, a Unipower employee may not be alive today.

On January 27, Irene Higgins nearly died from cardiac arrest.  Her co-workers were able to keep her alive until CPR was taken over by EMS and brought to Erlanger where she was later diagnosed with having cardiomyopathy.  Her survival is a true testament for CPR training.

Wednesday, Unipower employees, first responders and city officials celebrated this amazing story of survival during a true "celebration of life."  Representatives from Erlanger's cardiac services also celebrated the co-workers' dedication to keeping Ms. Higgins alive and honor their patient's survival and recovery.

Irene called her co-workers "family," and thanked first responders which included the Sequatchie County Sheriff's Department and the Dunlap Police Department.
