Four charged with trying to smuggle drugs inside area jail

BRADLEY COUNTY, TN (WRCB) -

Three females and a male inmate have been charged for trying to smuggle drugs inside the Bradley County Jail. 

The Bradley County Sheriff's Office states two of the females were seen on security cameras by the exterior jail wall. Deputies responded and observed a small string hanging from the wall and saw the string was being pulled upward to inside the jail. 

One of the deputies was able to jump and pull the string down before the items attached to the string entered inside the jail. Upon detaining the women, nineteen straws inter-connected with duct tape were found that the women were trying to conceal. The straws attached to the string and additional straws found in the area contained an assortment of prescription medication, marijuana, tobacco, and matches. Upon investigation, it was discovered an inmate had created a hole at his jail cell window in order to receive the items found.

A third female was found inside a vehicle and attempted to conceal herself by hiding in the floorboard. She admitted she was with the two other females.

The following individuals have been charged in connection with this incident:

  • Kersha Lethania Kendricks, 29: Possession of Schedule II, Possession with Intent to Distribute, Introduction into a Penal Facility, and Drug Paraphernalia
  • Tabatha Leshae Smartt, 28: Possession with Intent to Distribute, Introduction into a Penal Facility, and Drug Paraphernalia
  • Sharon Castile, 48: Accessory after the Fact
  • Johnny Lynn Harrison (inmate), 38: Introduction into a Penal Facility
