Bass Pro Shops construction nearing completion

Bass Pro Shops is getting closer to a grand opening, and Channel 3 got a sneak peek inside the East Ridge store.

The massive retail store is part of a 50-acre complex that will eventually house other retail stores.

"We're starting to put all the personalized touches on our building," said Jarron Ritchie, store general manager.

Most of the work outside the store is finished. Workers are now focusing on details inside the store.

One of the major highlights includes a 12,000 gallon aquarium that will hold local fish. Artists are busy creating other nods to the Tennessee Valley.

"You'll get a lot of what you would see in the outdoors in this area inside our building," Ritchie said.

The store will bring 150 new jobs, along with other improvements off of Exit 1 on I-75.

"It's going to make it a destination. And that's what we want Camp Jordan to be -- a destination," explained Stump Martin, East Ridge Parks & Recreation.

To make room for more traffic, the City of East Ridge is expanding Camp Jordan Parkway to five lanes. The road is set to re-open at the end of April.

"Realizing how many more people we'll be able to bring down the parkway heading that direction, and I'm sure Bass Pro is gonna be tickled to death with all the big events we have here," Martin said.

Surrounding land is being cleared for more retail development in between Camp Jordan and the new store.

"We're eagerly anticipating the opening of this store and the larger Jordan Crossing development," said East Ridge Mayor Brent Lambert.

The 50-acre Jordan Crossing will include a new hotel, several restaurants, retail stores and a strip mall.

"It could have very long-lasting ramifications for the City of East Ridge, in terms of tax dollars and really quality of life enhancements for the people that live here," Lambert said.

Bass Pro Shops will host a job fair at Camp Jordan on April 11-13. The store is expected to open in mid-summer.
