Families celebrate Easter at Coolidge

Posted: Updated:

The rain on Easter Sunday didn’t stop families from enjoying Easter at Coolidge.

Children scrambled for candy and prizes at the 8th annual Easter Egg Hunt.

Over 135,000 colorful Easter eggs were scattered throughout Coolidge Park.

Children dressed in their Easter best, grabbed their baskets and collected the sweet treats.

It’s a tradition for many families.

Luciana Hemphill said, “It turned into a tradition of going to Coolidge Park on Easter. We have an Easter egg hunt, its been very fun for us.”

Soggy grounds didn’t stop the hundreds of children from celebrating and collecting plastic eggs filled with candy and prizes.

Rodger Russells, children’s pastor at Stuart Heights, said “The overcast may have dampened a few participants but we had a great morning with a great turn out. It was a wonderful time with everyone who showed up.”

Organizers say the family event wouldn’t be possible without the 400 volunteers from Stuart Heights and the Mt. Canaan Baptist Church. The volunteers also make it a springtime tradition.

Russells said,  “Everybody in our church looks forward to Easter in the Park. We come here, put out lawn chairs, put out blankets, children can walk around, it’s come as you go.”

After all the eggs were gathered up and tummies full of Easter treats, the community listened to an Easter Sunday service, reflecting on faith and hope. Isabelle Aples, said, “I love it! It was a lot of fun.. and it was just.. I love this so much!”
