DALTON, GA (WRCB) -

The Dalton Police Department is hoping that you’ll recognize a woman who stole $40 in cash that was accidentally left behind at a self-checkout station by a woman Friday morning.

The incident happened after 11:00 am at the Walmart on Shugart Road. A woman was using the self-checkout area to pay for her groceries and got $40 in cash back after paying with a card, but accidentally left the money in the dispenser.

After she left, another woman used the same checkout station and could be seen on surveillance taking the money out of the dispenser and putting it in her right pocket.

The victim realized her mistake almost immediately and came back to check for her money, even asking the suspect if she had seen the money or taken it. The suspect reportedly replied that she had not seen the money and left the store.

She left in what appears to be a red Ford Escape or similar style SUV.

The suspect is a black female, with chin-length black hair. She wore black pants and a white t-shirt.

Anyone with information on her identity or this incident is asked to please contact Officer Blake Edwards at 706-278-9085, dial 9 and enter extension 315, or click here to send an email.
