EPB crews prepare ahead of storms

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

EPB crews were on standby Thursday afternoon in preparation for afternoon storms.

With rain and strong winds on the radar, they'll have to stick around until after the storms have cleared.

"We've told folks they can't leave early today. We know a holiday is tomorrow, but we'll be on standby. So if the storm hits, we'll be prepared, and everybody will be here. We can respond quickly," said Wendell Boring, EPB Asst. VP of Field Operations.

Crews work year-round to be storm-ready. They stay busy doing routine work on 3,500 miles of wires across EPB's service area.

According to Boring, the main cause of power outages is downed trees and branches.

Anyone who sees a tree on a downed line should not touch it. Call EPB and they can send a professional to help.
