Chattanooga: America's Sixth-fattest city

Four of Tennessee's major cities are in the top twenty of America's fattest cities for 2016 according to a WalletHub study released this week.

While the Chattanooga area tipped the scales as America's sixth fattest city, the "honor" for the country's fattest area went to Memphis.

Knoxville weighed in 12th place, and the Nashville area was 14th.

The study factored 14 key metrics, ranging from “percentage of physically inactive adults” to “percentage of adults eating fewer than one serving of fruits or vegetables per day.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than a third of American adults and about 17% of young people were obese in 2012.

Those numbers do not include people considered to be overweight.
