Restaurant Report Card: No failing grades this week

Posted: Updated:
HAMILTON COUNTY, TN (WRCB) -

High scores continue for Hamilton County restaurants and school cafeterias. Our Restaurant Report Card looks through local restaurant and school cafeteria inspections to find the highs and the lows of this week’s scores.

Many of the establishments inspected received perfect scores of 100. There were no failing grades; however, one restaurant on the list was close to missing the mark. The lowest score, Forbidden City, received 74 points, sinking to a near failing grade of below 70.

The inspector found in Forbidden City, the pan Asian buffet located on 2273 Gunbarrel Road, a sushi chef handling ready-to-eat vegetables with bare hands, raw meat stored over ready-to-eat foods in several places, and a box of food found on the freezer floor. There were no sanitizing buckets or surfaces found in the kitchen and unlabeled chemicals throughout.

Though the restaurant did not pass with flying colors, many other establishments received positive ratings. Virginia College Culinard, which received a score of 100, prepares its students and chefs with ServSafe management training. While many of the other restaurants and cafeterias on the list scored in the 90s or above.
