Chicken of the Sea recalls 100,000 cans of tuna

The USDA Food and Drug Administration announced today the voluntary recall of select 5-ounce cans of Chicken of the Sea tuna due to insufficient cooking.

The products include those packed in water and those packed in oil.

This recall of over 100,000 cans of tuna comes one day after the Bumble Bee tuna recall.

The product was under-cooked due to an equipment malfunction discovered during routine inspection. Spoilage organisms or pathogens which could lead to life-threatening illness if ingested is the reason for the recall although no reported illnesses have been made to this date.

The products were sold at retailers nationwide in single cans between Feb. 18-March 16.
