Dr. Kirk Kelly and Dr. Lee McDade will supervise operations at the Hamilton County Department of Education until an interim superintendent is chosen.

Board members named the two "co-superintendents" at Thursday's meeting, with Kelly serving as primary superintendent.  Kelly is currently director of accountability and testing, and McDade has served as deputy superintendent since 2011.  Both served under Rick Smith, who retired on Monday.

The board voted 9-0 to approve the temporary leadership, and will soon present a plan to find an interim superintendent, who would serve during the search period for a new superintendent.
