A German website says that Volkswagen could be focusing on a plan to electric vehicles and they may be built at the VW Chattanooga plant, according to WirtschaftsWoche.

The idea is considered to be a "big solution" since VW is expected to fall short of the March 24 deadline for a proposed fix.

The option of a new vehicle and factory may be part of a settlement agreement between Volkswagen and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Development of a national electric vehicle charging network may also be a part of the deal.

Additionally, VW may buy back cars and pay for emission rights following the automaker's emissions scandal.

Volkswagen may not be able to meet the deadline this month to get approval from the California Air Resources Board for the recall plan to fix about 500,000 manipulated VW diesel cars in the United States, according to CARB Executive Officer Richard Corey.

In September, 2015, Volkswagen admitted that nearly 11 million of their vehicles were deployed with software that bypassed emissions standards by design.

These vehicles emit over 40 times the standard for what the U.S laws The resulting nitrogen oxide creates smog.

This news comes on the heels of VW subsidiary Porsche giving employees record bonuses for their work in 2015.
