BREAKING: Oversized load on Hwy 41 causes down poles and power outage

UPDATE:  A truck carrying an oversized load knocked down poles and power lines on Highway 41. The load, a large generator, was 16 feet tall and 12 feet wide and was granted a permit to travel on Highway 41 by the Tennessee Department of Transportation.

TDOT tells Channel 3 that they are are re-examining the permit details.

It happened on the 18,000 block, near the Sullivan's Boat Dock, between Tiftonia and Haleton.

Motorists should seek an alternate route for Highway 41, with Interstate 24 as a good option. Traffic may still be affected.

EPB is no longer reporting power outages in Lookout Valley.


PREVIOUS STORY: In Marion County, an oversized load was traveling on Highway 41 near Tiftonia. 

According to dispatchers, it knocked down power poles and power lines. EPB is on the scene. EPB is reporting moderate power outages in Lookout Valley.

Traffic on Highway 41 will be affected until about 8 a.m. Eastern time.
