UPDATE: Carjacking suspect arrested in his underwear, said he was on meth

UPDATE: Law enforcement officers from Georgia and Tennessee converged near Haddock Lane in Catoosa County to apprehend a carjacking suspect Wednesday morning.

The suspect, Gregory Scott Sholtz,25,  was captured in his underwear, is in custody after police used a stungun on him. He told troopers that he was on meth.

Chattanooga Police responded to the 2000 block of Gunbarrel Road on the report of a carjacking. The victim, told police he was driving west bound on East Brainerd Road near Gunbarrel Road. The victim said he was approaching the intersection with Gunbarrel Road and the Sholtz ran from the side of the road and approached his car. 

Sholtz told the victim that he had been hit by a car and needed a ride to the Emergency Room. Sholtz entered the vehicle and asked the victim to take him Erlanger downtown. Sholtz shortly told the victim to get out of the vehicle. 

The victim told police that Sholtz began reaching in pants leg and told the victim he had a gun and would shoot him. Sholtz took the vehicle and left the area driving south on Gunbarrel Road.

A short time later Georgia State Patrol located the vehicle and pursued it. GSP was able to catch Sholtz.

Sholtz is facing charges in Georgia and will be extradited to Tennessee following due process. The vehicle was recovered by Georgia State Patrol 


PREVIOUS STORY: Police are searching the North Georgia area for the suspect. The victim's phone, which was left in the vehicle, is being used to help police track the suspects.

Chattanooga police are searching for carjacking that originated at the Gunbarrel Road Walmart Wednesday morning.

The vehicle taken is a black 2012 Dodge RAM Crew Cab pickup truck with Tennessee license plate F8392X.

Channel 3 has confirmed that the vehicle was last seen on Tennessee Avenue in the St. Elmo area. The search has been extended to the Rossville area and into Chickamauga.
