PEARL, MS (Mississippi News Now) - Scotty's Tire and Auto in Pearl has seen a lot of strange things under cars.

When a woman drove in March 2 she complained of unusual noises in her vehicle.

She waited for two hours before getting the car driven and then up on a rack for inspection.

The technicians were shocked to find a stowaway.

The frightened pooch was pinned between the exhaust and trailing arm underneath.

Somehow this undetected passenger  survived a 25 mile ride from south Jackson to Scotty's in Pearl.

Jeff Cox, the mechanic at Scotty's, helped pull the pup out.

"Nothing like this ever happened before. We've seen possums, snakes and all that never a dog. this is a lucky dog. He's very lucky," said Cox. "Seventy miles per hour on the interstate from Jackson; he's lucky."

Despite bloodshot eyes from the heat and exhaust, and a small burn on his back, the 30 pound Pit Bull managed to wag his tail.

The vehicle owner was so overwhelmed she adopted him; and fittingly named him Lucky.

Needless to say, the ride home was inside the jeep, not underneath it.
