$25M behavioral health hospital proposed for Chattanooga

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - Chattanooga's Erlanger Health System is hoping to build a $25 million behavioral health hospital that it says would eventually employ 200 people.

Hospital officials tell the Chattanooga Times Free Press (http://bit.ly/1YKWp62 ) that they are seeking to obtain permission from the state Health Services and Development Agency to build the 72,000-square-foot-facility about a mile east of the main Erlanger campus.

Erlanger Senior Vice President for Planning, Analytics and Business Development Joe Winick said Friday that he is optimistic that the plans will be approved. He says about 50 percent of people in the community who might have a mental or behavioral health condition aren't being treated.

Winick says Erlanger hopes to hear whether its proposal is approved by the end of June. He says the facility could open by the end of 2017.
