UPDATE: I-24E multi-vehicle crash mm 164 in Marion County

UPDATE: According to the preliminary report on the I-24 crash that shutdown the interstate says traffic was stopped to slow moving due to construction around mile marker 175.

A semi truck and trailer approached the rear of the que of vehicles at mile marker 166 east and hit 8 vehicles and came to rest in the median.  

The report sates possible charges are pending. 

One victim was flown by Life Force and five others were transported to local hospitals.

THP says eastbound traffic is closed, but westbound traffic will have rubbernecking delays. 

THP tells Channel 3 to plan for alternate routes when traveling into Chattanooga. Lt. John Harmon says take exit at milemarker 155 in Dunlap take Highway 11 to get into Chattanooga quicker. 

The crash is expected to be cleared by 5 p.m. eastern, according to THP.
