Man arrested after almost running over officer, fleeing the scene

A man has been arrested on charges of aggravated assault and evading arrest, among others, for driving away from an officer on Tuesday.

Chattanooga Police responded to reports of four children abandoned inside of a vehicle at the Parking Lot of Food City located at 4510 Highway 58.

After locating the car, officials noted there were four small children in the back seat, unrestrained, and without car seats.

Police say 29-year-old Andre Shaune Grier was inside, and began to back his car out of the parking space as an officer approached his silver Mazda.

The officer asked him to stop twice, and Grier then drove away from the parking space, accelerating towards the officer.

The suspect exited the parking lot, and officials say they later located his vehicle at 7631 Cecelia Drive, where he was arrested.

Grier was transported to the Hamilton County Jail where he faces charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, evading arrest, driving on a suspended license, and violation of child restraint law.
