Chattanooga Marathon road closures for March 5-6

With the Chattanooga Marathon on Saturday, March 5 and Sunday, March 6, several area roads will be closed. Be prepared for delays and detours in downtown Chattanooga.

Here are the street closures from the Chattanooga Police Department:

Classic 150 5K Race  • Saturday, March 5, 2016 • Race Times: 9:00 am - 10:00 am 
Start/Finish location: Finley Stadium
 

  • Main Street from Reggie White Blvd. to Market St. will be closed. 
  • Main St. from Market St. to Madison St will be closed to eastbound traffic. 
  • W. 13th St. between Cowart St. and Carter St. will be closed. 
  • Carter St. from W. 13th to Main St will be closed to northbound traffic. 
  • Parking will be prohibited along the route on March 5 from 1am until 12 noon. 
  • Broad St. and Market St. traffic will be stopped for runners on Main St. 

Kid’s Fun Run  • Saturday, March 5, 2016 • Race Times: 11:00 am - 12:00 pm 
Start/Finish location: Finley Stadium 

  • Chestnut St. from 20th St. to W. 13th St. will be closed. 
  • W. 13th St. from Chestnut St. to Carter St will be closed. 
  • North bound Carter St. from W. 13th to Main St will be closed. 
  • Parking will be prohibited along the route on March 5 from 1am until 12 noon. 
  • Main St. traffic will be stopped for runners on Carter St. and Chestnut St. 

The Erlanger Chattanooga Marathon and Half Marathon, Presented by BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee 
Sunday March 6, 2016 • Race Start: 8:00 am 

  • Start location: Broad Street at Aquarium Way 
  • Finish location: Finley Stadium 

Full Marathon and Half Marathon • Set Up: Saturday, March 5, 2016 

  • Broad St. from Aquarium Way to W 3rd St. will be closed from 12 noon Saturday until 12 noon Sunday. 
  • Parking will be prohibited in this 200 block of Broad Street from 8am Saturday until 12 noon Sunday. 

Race Day: Sunday March 6, 2016 
Traffic lane and road closures will begin at 3am and reopen after the last runner though (4pm at the latest) 

  • Aquarium Way from Chestnut St. to Market St. will be closed 3am - 12 noon Sunday. 
  • Riverfront Pkwy. from Lindsay St. to Molly Lane will be closed to westbound traffic. 
  • W. 13th St. from Carter St. to Broad St. will be closed to eastbound traffic. 
  • Carter St. from Main St. to W 13th St. will be closed to northbound traffic. 
  • The Battery Place exit ramp from Riverside Drive to Mabel St. will be closed. 
  • The Barton Ave. ramp from Frazier Ave. will be closed. 
  • St. Elmo Ave. between Tennessee Ave. and W 38th St will closed. 
  • The I-24 westbound exit ramp to Market Street will be closed. 
  • The southbound Market Street on ramp to eastbound I-24 will be closed. 

For the race start, there will be a full closure of Broad St. from Aquarium Way to Martin Luther King Blvd. from 7:30 am-9:00 am Sunday 

Runners are to be expected on City streets from Riverfront Pkwy to N. Orchard Knob Ave. and from the Riverview neighborhood to St. Elmo. Drive with Caution. Traffic cones will close one travel lane on many of the roads along the route. Yield to runners when crossing a closed travel lane. 

Chattanooga Police will stop traffic at intersections for runners to pass. High Impact Intersections: 

  • Market Street at Main Street 
  • Market Street at W 20th Street 
  • Tennessee Ave at W 40th Street 
  • St. Elmo Ave at W 47th St. (4-way stop will be in place) 
  • St. Elmo Ave at W 42nd (4-way stop will be in place) 
  • St. Elmo Ave at Broad Street 
  • Riverfront Pkwy at Lindsay Street 
  • Bailey Ave at N. Holtzclaw Ave 
  • Parking will be prohibited along much of the Marathon route on March 6 from 1am until 3pm. 
  • All roads and lanes will be re-opened no later than 4:00 pm, with most opening before.
