Girl Scouts offered a suspect cookies just before robbery

Posted: Updated:

The troop of Girl Scouts were selling cookies outside the Wilco-Hess truck stop off I-75 in Niota minutes before a robbery took place, Wednesday night.

According to Niota Police Department, a man approached the front door of the truck stop around 6:40 p.m. The Girl Scouts asked him if he wanted to buy cookies. The man ignored the troop  and went into the store, walked up to the counter and demanded money and pulled out a handgun.

Police said the suspect left with around $169 and drove off in a white Kia Optima with tinted windows and Alabama tags.

The suspect is described as a white male with a goatee, between 6'2 and 6'3 in height, wearing a blue hoodie and black pants. No one was injured.

The suspect did not take anything from the Girl Scouts on his way out of the store.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Niota Police Department or McMinn County dispatch at 423-745-5613.
