Teen accused of shooting grandmother, 2 young relatives

Posted: Updated:

A Nashville teenager is in custody after allegedly shooting his grandmother and two young relatives.

Police said the 16-year-old got into an argument with his grandmother at the Berkshire Apartments on Porter Road on Tuesday morning.

During the altercation, he allegedly got a gun from the closet and shot his grandmother, 12-year-old sister and 6-year-old nephew.

The teen was later taken into custody on Straightway Avenue. He will be facing at least five counts of aggravated assault.

The victims' wounds are not said to be life-threatening.

Six schools, including Cora Howe Elementary School, Stratford High School, Inglewood Elementary, Bailey Middle School, Goodlettsville Middle School and East End Prep, were on lockdown, but that has since been lifted.

Cora Howe Elementary is serving as a polling place for the primary on Tuesday. Voting was disrupted for 30 minutes during the lockdown but has resumed.

Nancy DeKalb, spokeswoman for the Davidson County Election Commission, said Howard School was offered as an option to vote during that time, but only one person from Cora Howe went to vote there instead. Everyone else stayed in line to vote. DeKalb said none of the voters were turned away.
