A man is charged with child abuse, after police say he hit his child with his fists, belt, and sporting equipment.

Chattanooga Police say Egurtis Butchee allegedly hit his child in the face with his fists; he hit the child in the face and stomach with a tennis racquet, struck the child in various areas of their body with a belt, and choked the child with his hands.

The incident was reported in early November, when the victim told school officials there was a fear of going home.

Police later responded to the victim’s home, where the child’s mother told police school officials called her about the incident.

Police found markings and bruises on the child’s body consistent with the story. The child’s siblings also confirmed the account.

The victim’s aunt told police that Butchee has a history of violence. Court records show he has faced assault charges four times in the past in Hamilton County.

Butchee was arrested January 5. He’s due in court January 27.
