Mayor Berke’s directive charged the agency with proactively addressing the potential for abuse and hazing among the city's youth.

PREVIOUS STORY: With no response coming from the Hamilton County School board in the two weeks following the Ooltewah student rape case, Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke issued a Mayoral Directive Tuesday.

Two weeks after the incident, the directive, No. 2016-01, instructs the "leadership at the Department of Youth & Family Development (YFD) to proactively address the potential for such abuse within City facilities and safeguard YFD students against hazing and bullying."

Overall, the directive includes the order to review procedures and policies at YFD centers in the city, and staff recognition of hazing and bullying to take steps to address such abuse.

Reports of such incidents will be shared with  the appropriate law enforcement agency to proper action may be taken.
